PersonalityCaring, considerate, understanding, empathetic, non-confrontational: Even before the placement exam set Icarus on the path to becoming a therapist, he was known as a good shoulder to cry on and a sympathetic ear. He's tuned in to how other people are feeling and likes to help when they're not at their best. He's got a huge heart, which is both a virtue and a flaw in his case. He's not good at cutting people off even when he should. He believes strongly in redemption and the power of love, and truly thinks that there's no such thing as a lost cause.
The roughness of the past two years has left him a bit frazzled and on edge. Warier of people and their motives. Even so, he's still not snappy or rude, just less naive and idealistic.
AppearanceTall, broad, and very muscular. Has a nice, bright smile that is often on display.
HistoryThe youngest of three and a whiz kid, Icarus spent most of his childhood as the apple of his parents' eye. He was their golden boy and the older brothers he overshadowed resented that for years. They felt the need to compete with him, always striving to outdo him in one way or another, but ultimately the rivalry was one sided. Icarus wasn't interested in competition and preferred to talk rather than fight. Love not war, he always said.
School was a reprieve from the tensions at home. There, he got along with just about everyone, earning the reputation of "chill dude" which ensured he was never without a group of friends to hang with.
It wasn't until his teen years, when he was on the cusp of graduating that he began to patch things up with his brothers. They were old enough to let go of childhood hurts and forgiving them for hard times and harsh words was as easy as breathing.
He was in high spirits when he took the career aptitude test, and his results made him that much happier. He was put on track to be in mental health services, a field dedicated to helping people who needed it most. It fit Icarus perfectly and he went into to his training determined to prove himself. When all was said and done, Icarus found himself working as a therapist at Tidewater's Stress Center.
He was drafted on the late side, at 24. His wife, Leanna, had already been through two marriages and badly wanted this to be her last. They were both eager and willing to meet in the middle to form a partnership in which they were both happy. Two years later, they had a daughter, Mia. Two years after that, when Leanna's birth control was returned, they started to talk about having more children.
That conversation was put on hold following the death of Icarus' father. They had every intention to get back to it, to start to move on when tragedy struck again. Icarus' brothers died in plane crash on their way back from vacation, a trip Icarus was supposed to be on, but bowed out of to take care of Leanna who'd come down with a nasty stomach virus. Quite suddenly, all their children were orphans and Icarus was the one slated to take them in.
The aftermath of the crash was painful and messy. Between all the people involved, there was no shortage of grief, and Icarus took it upon himself to be the strong one.
He moved his family to Old Town with every last one of his brother's children, making sure to keep the house open to their mothers as well. It was a massive responsibility to take on, but Icarus saw no other choice. With all the help he could get, he tried to settle the brood into a new life.
Despite his efforts, the hits just kept coming. A year after he lost his brothers, Leanna was arrested for involvement with an anti-Trust organization and executed. That shook Icarus to his core. He hadn't been certain about many things in his life, but he'd been certain about Leanna. He thought she was exactly who she'd presented herself as - a law abiding woman, a dutiful wife, a loving mother. She'd been his rock, his stability in all the chaos, and her arrest proved that it had all been a lie. Everything she'd been was a facade, put up so he wouldn't see her for who she really was. The betrayal cut deeper than Icarus let on.
He wants to move on, to have a marriage that's real, but isn't sure that he'll be able to trust whoever comes next.
