The year is 2192.

The country is the United States.

The current regime, The Trust, has been in power for over one hundred years.

The Trust takes care of you from cradle to grave--they provide you with housing, education, jobs, vehicles--but, in exchange, they control everything about your life. What color car you will drive. Where you will live. And, most important of all: who you will marry and how many children you will have.

Do you fight them or favor them?

Long wild and wavy hair that burns red when it catches the light and a face full of freckles are her stand out features. Many people tend to notice that her freckling is a bit heavier on the right side of her face, a trait it's taken her a while to love. She stands at 5'3" and weighs a total of 125 lbs. She's pretty lazy so there's no tone there, just good genetics.

Prairie's father had been raised on the farmland of region 6. He dreamed of being a farmer just like his dad, he knew it wasn't a glamorous job appointment but none the less he dreamt of it. At eighteen he tested into something a little grander: the Trust's Department of Agriculture. Though his own father was proud as could be, he was sad to leave his simple land of home for the city.

But the Trust has it's way of making things up to a man. Prairie's mother was her father's perfect match, they adored each other as newly-weds and even still to this day. They each treat each other like the other walks on water. They had a son first-named after his farming father that he respected so much- and a few years later a daughter named after the landscaped that he missed so much. They couldn't have a third on their own accord, but it was just fine, they've always been over the moon with their two children.

Prairie was always a quiet child, a bit dreamy, but always thinking. An active mind. Prairie was born in the same month as her mother's best friend's first-a boy named Luke. She had a built in best friend that way. Luke was a bolder personality, always inventing adventures and Prairie was always behind him or climbing whatever trees he decided on.

At six her bracelet appointment came. Her mother and father sat her down and explained how she'd be going off to school soon and the bracelet would keep her safe. They told her all about the blood-tests and heart-rate monitor and how her bracelet could call an ambulance or the police automatically. Her father even told her how his mother had fallen in the field once and how the bracelet had kept her from being hurt and lost after the sun went down. She went from scared to happy to have it on. Though she did always wonder why Luke and the other boys didn't get one.

She went off to school and got on well enough. She did well in her classes, made a couple friends. None who could replace Luke, but good enough. She liked her classes, and like the idea of being a wife. Her mother had such a happy life with her father, he treated her like gold. Prairie like the idea of having a husband who loved her like that. That's how it all should have ended. Happy family, mediocre school, an average happy Trust life.

She graduated with good enough grade to be drafted sometime in her 18th year. There was nothing to do now, but wait. Luke had tested into a desk job that he already hated. Prairie felt badly, she hoped he'd ease into it or get a wonderful wife so he had something to look forward to at the end of the day. But in the meantime she tried to spend much of her abundant free-time with him, so he could have a little fun.

In school, one of her instructors told her that before the Trust one in five women were raped. That three quarters of them were hurt by someone they knew. The Trust had fixed that, happily married men and men on their sponsorship don't need to do things like that. And with the decency laws they had now women were much less likely to invite that sort of thing.

Their parents had been downstairs when it happened, it was a big party-pretty noisy too. She and Luke had been in up in his room, listening to music as they usually did. And then somehow he was on top of her. Words had never come easily to her but this time they were completely lost. They even hung out a while afterwards, she didn't know how to leave. Before they went back downstairs he reminded her that if she told anyone they'd both be executed. That was the end of that.

She stopped going out of her way to hang out but she still sees Luke constantly. Mostly they don't talk about it, but occasionally he looks at her or touches her in a way that's meant to remind her. Since there's been one other time he'd gotten her alone and it ended the same.

She's terrified of her draft now. She's heard that virgins feel different, what if he can tell? What if he reports her? Her bracelet was supposed to protect her and the Trust just took it away for these useless chips. They didn't take care of her and now she can't be the bride they want her to be.
