The year is 2192.

The country is the United States.

The current regime, The Trust, has been in power for over one hundred years.

The Trust takes care of you from cradle to grave--they provide you with housing, education, jobs, vehicles--but, in exchange, they control everything about your life. What color car you will drive. Where you will live. And, most important of all: who you will marry and how many children you will have.

Do you fight them or favor them?

Great brows and an even greater smile.

She has taught herself stick and poke, she has tattooed the bottom of her feet with patterns.

She's Keke for short, but god help you if you ask her for a nickname because her real one is "too hard". She's proud to be Kekoa, it means Warrior and she very much aspires to be that.

Kekoa was the daughter of two ex Hawaiians that had got very very lucky in being drafted to each other. Ever since the Trust forced the residents of Hawaii off the island and on to the mainland, her parents claimed there was a concerted effort to breed them all out of existence. Her parents were just an example to prove they weren't. Something the Trust could point to if anyone dare question them.

In case it isn't obvious, Kekoa's mother and father were very anti-Trust. They both longed for their families homelands and it broke their hearts to know that not only would they never see it but neither would their daughters: Laeula and little Kekoa. They were involved in rebel activities long before either girl was born, but becoming parents put a new fire in their hearts. They started fighting harder, dedicating more of themselves to the cause. They taught their daughters to be strong, they taught them to remember were they came from. Her mother cried harder than she did when Keke's bracelet was fixed on her wrist.

Kekoa was eight when they were finally arrested. Her elder sister sixteen. They weren't allowed to see their parents before their executions for treason. The Trust's authority said that their parents had done them enough damage already without being allowed a last chance to corrupt a pair of fine girls.

Kekoa will never forgive them.

The new two years were torture. Leaula would never be able to care for the little sister the way an older brother could when he became of age. They knew they were only biding the time until Leaula was married off and Kekoa would be left at St. Jerome's alone. They spent every moment they could together, forever talking about their parents, their people and their dreams. To the point of the odd teacher worrying it was unhealthy. But thankfully the folks at St. Jerome's knew they varied reactions to grief and didn't make moves to separate them.

As if to add insult to injury, when the time came Leaula was drafted out of the region. It was the final straw for Kekoa. The Trust will never have good intentions in her mind. They are just plain evil.

Gradually, Kekoa bonded with the other souls of St. Jeromes. They are her second family, though they'll never top her first. She can be fiercely protective over the others, even if they happen to be older than her. She'd do anything for them. Sometimes she fantasizes about forming a rebellion in the orphanage. So many of them have lost their parents senselessly it's hard not to dream about revenge.

Kekoa believes that the Trust puts more human planning into the drafts then they claim. She can be a bit of a conspiracy theorist in that way. To try to keep from a punishing Draft she studies hard and plays on her bright, beautiful smile. If she acts like a good little Stockholm's syndrome sufferer they'll give her a good draft instead of some abusive prick who would watch her too closely. Her theories are rarely shared, but when they are it's in the middle of the night, whispered, to other St. Jerome's residents. Casual acquaintances just see her as a good student who's maybe a bit cliquish.

Kekoa helps out a lot around the orphanage. She's great with the babies and takes some genuine joy in children. It's not just her act for the Trust. As she gets older and as much as she'd striving for a good draft, she's dreading her future. The idea of being joined for life with some other person she can't possibly predict is horrifying. What if they're brain washed? What if they aren't good enough for her? She'd rather be alone than with someone who doesn't deserve her.
