PersonalitySnoopy, Sassy and Short-tempered
AppearanceDinah looks very much like her sister, thin and lanky (but not tall in the least) with long dark hair. However she had the good luck of inheriting her mom's full pouty lips which she takes full advantage of. She has a lovely smile.
HistoryDinah was always the girl who knew too much. Probably always will be. When she was little it was out of exhaustion. The Warringtons and the club had spent so many years diligently tucking away details about the club, about all the kids who lived there. But the time most of them were grown enough to know what as going on, everyone was so bored and tired of hiding the truth that they started letting things slip. Dinah was too young to know, really, but too often people would just say things outright only to notice her there and groan before shooing her away.
That was how her life shaped early. Her youth was always a rueful inconvenience. If only she were older like her sister and the others...
The little breadcrumbs dropped always made her hungry for more. Dinah wanted to know the details of all the secrets being so poorly kept from her. She became the girl who was forever in something she shouldn't be. Sneaking out of her bed at night to lie down in the upstairs hallway so she couldn't be seen and eavesdrop on the adult conversations below. She rarely said a word about any of it, just because she wanted the dirty details didn't mean she wanted to spread them. They were little treasures that she hoarded like a dragon in a fantasy novel. Just for her to whisper to her teddy bears or at least it was.
She read the book Harriet the Spy when she was ten and thought a spy notebook was the perfect vehicle for all her gathered knowledge. She started jotting everything down in a little black and white composition book, just like Harriet had. She'd damn near filled half a book when her dad found it. That was the first time she'd ever seen him truly to-the-core livid mad. The book was promptly destroyed - burned if you want the specifics, Quincy made her toss the torn remains in the fire herself - and she never wrote down another word she heard. Her father finally cluing into the fact that she wasn't as dumb to the whole things as thought, suddenly put her under closer watch. Suddenly paying her a little more mind and fixing her with a shorter leash. Though her curiosity and sneaky prying never quite ceased. She's gone back to just tucking things away in her mind. Every so often Quincy catches her looking or listening to something she shouldn't. It's never a pretty picture. Dinah does love her dad, but there's a fear there that she'll never quite shake.
In school Dinah did fine. It was never a priority in the home, never emphasized, so while the teachers asked that she care she only did so marginally. Dinah was faaaaaar more interested in the social. Growing up around so many older and cooler people made her and instant fascination for the other girls, especially so in her teen years. She had an ease of comfort and flirtation around boys that the other girls hadn't had a chance to learn. Dinah became something of a natural queen bee and her talent for collecting and protecting information only made her all the more deadly in gossipy circles like that.
She'd been riding on quite the high in her last years at school, but reality has a way of putting a girl in her place again.
The Ashpoint Incident happened just after Dinah graduated. Just after her father finally levelled with her about the nature of the club. It felt like somehow, having all her suspicions confirmed had brought a downfall. People she'd known her whole life were arrested or just shot in the chaos. Those who survived were torn from them, moved across the country. Some deal with her friends outside the club, half of them pulled to other towns. The whole structure of her life torn asunder.
She'd never in her life liked the idea of the draft. Following directions was never her favorite thing and this is an awfully big direction. But at the moment, she's almost looking forward to it. She's feeling directionless, at a loss, maybe a draft will help bring around some kind of new normal?
However, there is the history of her sister's drafts that give Dinah a lot of pause. What if she gets guys like that? Abusive assholes or worse, someone with the nerve to make her fall in love only to go and die. She's not sure she can handle any of that. She tries to tell herself that the club would save her, just like they did Norah, but she's not so sure. She might just be a problem again, someone to be shooed away.
