The year is 2192.

The country is the United States.

The current regime, The Trust, has been in power for over one hundred years.

The Trust takes care of you from cradle to grave--they provide you with housing, education, jobs, vehicles--but, in exchange, they control everything about your life. What color car you will drive. Where you will live. And, most important of all: who you will marry and how many children you will have.

Do you fight them or favor them?

Religion takes a focal point in Adhira's life, forming the foundation of her sense of self and view of the world. She is thus devoted to her family, to building a family and future for herself, and to the hope that maybe, just maybe, there's a way out of this mess. She dislikes the Trust for their treatment of her cousin, as well as for the particular way they treat people who don't conform to their world view. She is independent, creative, curious, and very much set in the way she functions.

On the other hand, she has been known to adjust her methods for specific reasons. She's grown to be a rather prodigious liar since she was drafted to Caleb, knowing how to vary the wording of her falsehoods so they don't sound rehearsed, as well as how not to overshare in her lies. She behaves with an innate grace in all things.

Standing tall on long legs with lean, graceful limbs from a youth spent dancing, Adhira stands five feet, eight inches in height. This graceful height is hidden only by the long, full-covering clothing she wears, ranging from soft silk to utilitarian cotton in brilliant colors and patterns. Her thick hair is naturally dark brown, falling in gentle, natural waves to mid-back when unbound, though she rarely wears it so out of the house, preferring intricate hairstyles with braids or simple ponytails over free-flowing hair. On rare occasion, she will wear a brightly colored wig, ranging from red to gold.

Born the first child to a first drafted couple, Adhira, and her later siblings Ankita and Amitesh, were raised in a household of religion. At an early age, Adhira would spend much of her time with her mother and grandmother, learning from them the ways of their path. Marriage is sacred, and your first husband is meant to be your only. Faithfulness comes first; love comes in when faithfulness is there.

When she finally got shipped off to school, sensor bracelet in place, she flourished. She was something of a model student, but she did have her failings, typically in fashion. She preferred more traditional, flowing, long garments that hid her frame, things that most modern women would shy away from, and she didn't mind that. It marked her unique. Plus the sensor bracelet's colors went really well with the patterns she picked.

The same year Ankita began school, the first tragedy struck the happy family. Amitesh was struck by a car at the age of four years old, the driver intoxicated on illegal alcohol and not watching the road. He died there, in the road, while his mother screamed for help. The driver was punished accordingly, but the damage was done. Kavita fell into a deep depression, barely interacting with her elder children, while Andrew turned to drowning his emotions in work. Adhira and Ankita became a tight knot of two, relying on one another and their cousin Alisha for their own emotional support.

Sadly, it didn't last long. Five years passed by, and Andrew and Kavita began to grow close again. They began to interact with their daughters. Then on their first night out alone together since their loss, tragedy struck again. While on their way home, Andrew swerved to avoid something in the road and wrapped their car around a tree. He was killed on impact, but Kavita held on in hospital for another two weeks, time enough to say goodbye to her daughters, her parents, and her best friend and sister-in-law. After that, Adhira and Ankita were moved into their uncle August's house for their time away from school.

When Adhira came up to her testing, she wasn't the top of her class, but she was pretty decently up there. Her first draft came at the age of nineteen, to fellow first-time draft Caleb Pace. It was apparent early on that there was something different about him from what she'd been told to expect. He seemed to have no interest in her body, though he did quickly come to think of her as friend and confidante. Six months into the marriage, he confided his secret to her. He was seeing his college roommate, Garrett, and felt that being married to Adhira was essentially the same as cheating on him. So she agreed to keep his secret on one condition: if he got caught, she would be personally confiding in her family members that this was why they'd had no children.

They survived for two years by lying to everyone, saying that they were trying but having no luck, and that Adhira's beliefs kept them from IVF. Adhira took up a job as a receptionist at Driftwood Day Spa, and through this position, she began to offer women who were about to be drafted something special to mark the date with. Her habit of doodling on paper had been noticed some time ago by her grandmother, who had proceeded to teach her to make and use henna for traditional mehndi designs. She took that which she had learned from her grandmother and offered these designs to young women who were approaching their first draft. Two days prior to the draft appointment, she would meet with these women and design unique, freehanded mehndi on their feet, usually with the young woman's mother or older sister to help. She also does these designs on her own right hand often, typically sporting a new design every month or so.

But all good things must come to an end, and when Caleb and Garrett were caught and executed, Adhira went home and trusted her family - her sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, and grandparents - with the truth of the marriage. She and Caleb had never been intimate or more than merely friends. The lie had been to protect her just as much as it had been to protect him. And it was because of this that the family is willing to embrace a new draft for Adhira.

She's still working at the spa, but thanks to the relinquishing of her sensor bracelet in favor of the chip, she's able to do more intricate and interesting henna designs on her own skin. She's hopeful for her next draft. Maybe, just maybe, she'll get lucky.
