HistoryThisbe Juliet Roi had a loving family consisting of her father, Montreal Roi, mother Yessica and brothers, Thatcher and Tennessee. Her mother suffered from an eating disorder, and so Thisbe’s young childhood was marked small incidents of her mother’s health not being the best. Her father was unaware that when her mother was doing ‘well’, Yessica was passing on those ideals about a healthy weight and body to Thisbe. As young as 3, her mother was monitoring the child’s weight to make sure that she didn’t get to ‘chubby’.
Age 6 and the bracelet gave a new source of freedom and anxiety to the young girl. The first time being away from her family, away from having her food strictly monitored, with a bunch of other little girls who were quick to criticize anything and everything that they could find. It was a lot for Thisbe to take in, and she didn’t take to it well. She turned to food as a coping mechanism, and would often hide food in her room, only to have the stash discovered when she wasn’t careful to take care of the wrappers.
A note was sent home, which her mother intercepted, and began to have Thisbe exercise to work off the extra weight she’d put on. Thisbe’s clothes were snug, but hardly tight, but Yessica was determined that her daughter would be perfect. These weekend exercise sessions continued until Yessica was simply unable to continue, but by then, Thisbe had found that she could eat and eat at school, as long as she exercised a couple of hours every day.
Montreal and Thatcher were never the wiser about the collusion between mother and daughter.
By the time her mother actually passed, Thisbe was locked into her bingeing and exercise habits. Thisbe has managed to conceal her bulimia from everyone but her roommate, Valencia Mullaney, and possibly her twin. Talia, her father’s new wife, is a concern, but with the recent addition of laxatives to her diet, Thisbe is sure that she can fool this woman as well.
Even though Tennessee was her twin, they didn’t have any of that special twin connection that was so entrenched in mythos. He was just her brother, and a fun playmate before she was shipped off to school. She’s close to him, but nothing out of the ordinary of the close knit family.
She has suffered from anxiety as long as she can remember, and this feeds into her eating disorder. She doesn’t like new places or people, preferring instead to have things as she’s always known them. Her father’s new wife has her in a constant nervous state, and her only relief is school. Thisbe has had the same group of friends since she was seven or eight, and they all call her TJ.
She is lively, pretends to be happy, and is overall generally well liked. She does middling to well in school, and fresh off her exam is hoping that she bombed it enough to not be drafted for a few years. The thought of marrying some guy she might not have ever met brings on more anxiety, which makes her eat, and the cycle continues.
TJ adores her father, and thinks he’s one of the greatest men she’s ever known. She hopes that her husband will be like him, but she’s convinced that her luck won’t hold in that aspect. She’s convinced that if she ever actually was happy, then life would be perfect and she’d never have to worry about anything again.
