AppearanceRyder is always on the move and his work can require a great amount of physical strength and endurance from him. He keeps himself in impeccable shape due to all of this. Standing at 6'1 he makes an impressive figure of lean, toned muscle. He keeps his hair cropped short and always neat. Usually he is clean shaven but has been known to allow a bit of facial hair to grow. His usual style is a clean-cut athletic look, but he can also dress it up for important meetings and training seminars with a stunning suit.
HistoryRyder was born the first of three children to Joseph and Abigail Nolan just over a year after their Draft. Those early years were happy ones as his mother adored everything about being home and taking care of him. Even though his memories of the time before his brother Archer was born are vague there is still something happy there when it is brought up. Archer was a welcome surprise and by the time Madeline came along the family had settled into a routine. He was brought up by parents fully devoted to the Trust and their marriage seemed to work. As far as he could tell there has always been contentment within the union.
He began primary school at St. Thomas Aquinas and while he enjoyed learning, sitting still for very long was always an issue for him. He was a very active boy and that did tend to get him in trouble when he was fidgety in classes. Having a fall birthday he didn't move on to St. Benedict's until after Christmas the year he turned 11. It was at this point he found something he did enjoy. Anatomy and biology studies. He managed to get a couple advanced classes in it, and would have taken more had he been able to convince the instructors to allow it. Ryder found himself incredibly intrigued when his aptitude test pointed him towards physical therapy as a field. Once he saw how much study that was going to take he felt a bit ill.
The saving grace of those first couple of years was his sponsorship. Her name was Evelyn and she had challenged him at every turn. When he didn't think he could do it, she took his mind off it. Four years to get a bachelor's degree followed by three more to get his doctorate seemed daunting. Not only did she help him figure himself out a bit, a side effect was getting him invested in his career path. It wasn't that he was truly sad to see it end as he wasn't in love with Evelyn, but he did feel the stress creep back in once they had completed their time together.
Notice of his first Draft came in as he was beginning his doctorate studies. It was to a petite young brunette named Deila Rogers. She was temperamentally different than Evelyn but it was more appropriate he figured, she was a wife not a sponsor. He was moved into a home with her and picked up part-time work in the fitness center at the hospital. He appreciated her presence and in it's own way that kept him focused. His son Chandler was born his last year in doctorate studies and he considered that the best year of his life. He hadn't realized how amazing it would be to have a son.
Deila too seemed joyful at the baby boy's arrival. It was how it should be, right? His mother had always seemed thrilled to have her children. While he hadn't hated or loved the Draft it all seemed fine to him. He had a growing little family, and started up a year-long residency with the local hospital's physical therapy team. What more could he ask for? Things were going pretty smoothly. That is until Deila had a miscarriage with her second pregnancy. Nothing was the same after that.
He really did try to understand her pain but he just couldn't. His mother told him to give her space, take care of meals when he could, offer her quiet support, be a good husband. It didn't seem to work though and he just felt her pull back further. “She'll come around. Just give her time to grieve.” It wasn't him that she came around to. He couldn't say how long it had been going on when she was caught being unfaithful, but it was a blow to him. He threw himself into his work afterward as a fully licensed Physical Therapist. There is still some lingering questions inside him but he does his best to tamp them down and focus on his son. It's been almost two years and he's sure there will be a certain notice arriving whether he's truly ready for it or not.
